Jordanian Citizenship Through the Amman Stock Exchange: JOD 1.5 Million for Five Years

The stock exchange route is the most passive one in Jordan: no company, no staff. In exchange it is expensive and long. I checked the rules on 28 October 2026 in the Ministry of Investment criteria and the Cabinet amendments of 15 July 2026.
The conditions
- new shares in Jordanian companies worth at least JOD 1,500,000;
- no margin financing, no pledge, no lending of the shares;
- the purchase within four months of the Ministry of Investment approval letter, through a single licensed brokerage firm;
- no more than 10% of the required amount in the shares of any one company;
- no withdrawals from the investment account, including trading profits, for five years from the purchase.
Before and after 15 July 2026
| Decision of 2 July 2025 | Amendments of 15 July 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum | JOD 1,000,000 | JOD 1,500,000 |
| Maximum in one company | 20% | 10% |
| Holding period | 3 years | 5 years |
| Time to buy | 4 months | 4 months |
The 2025 text is the Petra report of 2 July 2025, which I read in a copy on Fana News. The Cabinet explained the 2026 increase by the good performance of the exchange and the wish to discourage short term investment.
What this means in practice
Diversification is mandatory
With a 10% cap per company, the portfolio must contain at least ten issuers. The investor carries the market risk for five years, and the profits stay in the account too.
One broker
The whole amount goes through one licensed brokerage firm. Choosing the broker and opening the account comes before the four month clock becomes a problem.
Shares from another investor do not count
The 2025 decision says citizenship will not be granted for shares bought from a previous investor who received citizenship for the same shares. The current criteria require newly issued shares, which points the same way.

Is it citizenship directly?
Yes. Unlike the new project route, the criteria do not mention a temporary passport for the stock exchange route. The family rules are the same as for other routes; see the family guide.
How it compares
For JOD 1.5 million the investor gets citizenship without running a business, but the money is locked twice as long as the new shares in the stake route. If you already plan a business in Jordan, a new project outside Amman starts at JOD 500,000. The full table is in the cost guide.
Questions and answers
How much must be invested in shares?
At least JOD 1,500,000 in newly issued shares of Jordanian companies, about $2.12 million at the rate BRIDGES uses.
Can I sell the shares or take profits?
Not for five years. The investor may not withdraw any funds from the investment account, including trading profits, until five years have passed from the purchase.
How many companies must I buy?
No more than 10% of the required amount may be in any single company, so the money must be spread over at least ten companies.
Are jobs required?
No. This is the only route without an employment or business requirement.
What were the rules before July 2026?
Under the decision of 2 July 2025 the threshold was JOD 1 million, up to 20% per company and a three year holding period.
